The following 5 tasks require you to create and embed information and images onto your own page of this online "7D - Melbourne Zoo Field Guide - 2014". You will need to check the 'Final Assessment' page for the assessment rubric to guide you in achieving the three standards for this unit of work.
Before going to the Melbourne Zoo you will need to select one of the animal species from the 'zoo lucky dip' - see Animal Selection page for a list of animals. Your job is to collect the following information about your animal at the zoo and when you return to enter this on your wiki page.
Take a look at the 'Sample Animal Page' to see the layout required and follow the links for help with each task.
Task 1 :
Create a banner (using Mybannermaker) to name your animal - you must show both Common and Scientific names for your animal.
This is to be embedded at the top of your page.
Task 2 :
You need to bring your own camera (phone) on the day - make sure it is charged, etc. - and take at least 3 different images of your animal to use for this task and also for Task 4 'Animoto'.
Add 3 images of your animal, selected from those taken by you on your field trip to the Melbourne Zoo, below the banner.
Follow instructions on the Images and Information page for how to edit and add images to your page.
Students NOT going to the zoo use the 'Creative Commons Licences - Images' links on the Digital Citizenship pages to sources your images.
Task 3 :
Your job is to collect the following information about your animal at the zoo and when you return to enter this on your wiki page.
Take a photo of your animal's information board to assist with this task.
Answer the following questions to support your knowledge of your animal.
This information is to be shown below the images - you must answer all questions and you can use the headings highlighted below.
Follow instructions on the Images and Information page for how to edit and add information to your page.
Note: This information can first be created in a Word document then copied onto your page when completed.
Male: What special features and differences in appearance, size, etc.?
Female: What special features and differences in appearance, size, etc.?
Young: How do they look and how quickly do they grow?
Size: Describe the size of a male, female and their young.
Breeding: When does this happen, how long is the female pregnant and how many young are produced?
Habitat: What is their habitat in the Zoo and how is it different to in the wild?
Feeding: What do they eat and how often do they eat?
Conclusion: Describe why your animal is interesting to you
Bibliography: Include citations for any books, websites, images you have used
Task 4 :
Try to go to the feeding time for your animal - check out the feeding time/s on the Melbourne Zoo website or on the information board at the entrance on the day.
Construct a food web from one of the three tasks on the 'Food Web' page.
For each, you need to draw a food web based on the information given and create it in the program 'Inspiration' which is on your netbook.
When it is finished, you need to take a screen shot of your food web and place it on your wiki page.
Follow the instructions on the 'Food Web' page for each standard carefully.
Task 5 :
Create an Animoto using photos taken on your excursion day of your animal and/or photos of your own 'Field Trip' around the Melbourne Zoo.
You could also include a slideshow or other video file (ensure you have an 'embedding code' in order for it to be placed on your page).
